Chingay 2016
The theme for Chingay 2016 is "lights of legacy, brighter Singapore ". Throughout the performance, lots of high technologies are used. One example would be the lights which did not need to be controlled by people. This showed the goal of Singapore in 50 years' time -- to be a high tech country.
Purpose of chingay was to celebrate the lunar new year. However, it was way more than that. It also serves as a reminder to Singaporeans that they should be united and to look after one another. During the performance, different races and groups performed their very own dances. This was a successful segment of the whole event as it vitualises the multi racial in Singapore, and yet Singaporeans appreciate each other's religion and practices . Also, the performance with the theme of community centers had great effect. Usually, people see but they don't observe. They know there are community centers where they can go to learn certain stuff, but how much do they really know about those community centers? They see them everyday, but who really knows what one can benefit from the community centers? In this performance, the lesson being taught as community centers were showcased to us. We all knew that there are lessons we can take up at the community centers but it was only at that point in time whereby we really see its value and learn to appreciate what we have .
The Chingay displayed and brought across many values, but it's fireworks and firecrackers could still bring us back to the main point of the whole performance--celebrating lunar new year. Throughout the years, Chingay changed a lot too, from a small ceremony to a large scaled performance.
The organizers have fully fulfilled the purpose of celebrating the lunar Chinese New Year, but at the same time also instilled values into our everyday life . Thus I would like to say, this performance is a successful one!

Money or happiness ? This is a question. Personally, I think that money is the basic to achieve everything. Money is needed to buy food and in Chinese, there's this saying which goes like that :民以食为天. Some people think that happiness can solve all the problem. I would say, that's a wonderful dream but , come on , with no money, what can you expect to achieve? NOTHING ! How can anyone be happy when they are on the verge of dying? However, just by having money is not enough . With money but no happiness , your life is a tragedy. Yet, it is true that money can buy anything. The happy poor people wants money and the rich sad people longs for happiness. Some people tries so hard to earn money and when they did earn lots of money , they realized things and people around them have changed and that no one was there to stand by them and feel happy with them . Then, they would recall why they had worked so hard to earn money. Everyone is greedy, yet when they get the things they wanted, the things somewhat becomes unimportant , and this becomes a cycle. I would say, in order to stop the cycle, the only thing we can do is to be contented with what we have . In that case, the world will be more beautiful.
Extraordinary in the ordinary .
This is the photo of the RV spirit sculpture. When I first entered RV, I saw that stone and I was wondering why were they putting a random irregular-shaped rock there. Then, during orientation, we were told that the 'rock' when seen from the second floor outside the staff room, can be recognized as a mother carrying a baby. Most of the RVians may think that the RV sculpture simply meant that RV is the mother, bringing up all the RVians up and nurturing the students. However, i think it meant more than that. It was also teaching us to view things from different angles and to be empathetic. From different perspectives, we could see different things. We would learn to be selfless and not just think about ourselves , but also consider other's feelings in that very situation, and we might be able to observe so much more. Just like how we looked at the sculpture, from one angle, we see a huge rock, yet, we could see the meaning behind the sculpture from another angle. In life, we have to put ourselves in other's shoes and view certain things from their perspectives. We can't only think about ourselves. The RV spirit sculpture is just a sculpture but it teaches us to be empathetic . When we learn to empathize with people around us, we can identify the underlying problems faster and thus resolving them faster.
Imagine a world with no empathy. It will be a mess as people have lack of understanding for others or even no interest to understand those around them. Empathy is of paramount importance as it builds bonds of trust and also help to connect people together.
I thought the RV spirit sculpture was special as it actually had more than just one meaning to it.

Hi! I'm Li Shimeng from class 2F. I have quite a lot of hobbies. I like music and sports. I listen to all types of music and I like bel canto the most cause it's very quiet and most of the time has this sad feeling going with it and it just makes me appreciate life when I listens to it . I like concerto pour deux voix the most because I like the tune and also the singer who originally sang it. I also like badminton and I play it whenever I'm free. I play it quite often in primary school days but not really much since I joined RV as I have to travel to stadium and back home and it takes up lots of time so I can only play during holidays (AND THAT IS SAD) . I'm like emotionally attached to badminton and I have to play it once in a while . It kind of relief my stress. Besides this, I'm into horoscope. I didn't believe it at first but then after seeing my star sign which is Aries , I felt that it was so magical cause it matches with my personality sooo much . After which, I was obsessed with horoscope. When I first meet someone, I would ask them for their birthday, then figure out their horoscope. When I know their horoscopes, I will never forget . I Dunn remember it intentionally but when it's just like how I remember names, they just go wif it. Oh, and there is something amazing I found out about myself . When I'm interested in a thing , just one glance and I'll remember everything , like kpop news and horoscope . I also like Kpop. I like SNSD , sistar, 2pm, 2am, Ailee . 2am is more of like a ballad group so they mostly sing slow songs which is one thing I really like . I like ailee because her vocal is just so great . People usually compare Ailee and IU but I personally prefer ailee. IU has strong vocal and her notes are stable and she has a nice voice but it's just not attractive . And also when she performs , almost all her performance are of the same style and it gets boring after a while . However for ailee and hyorin, they have different kind of performance . Hyorin mostly dance-sing whereas Ailee performs a variety . I also like seohyun from SNSD . She performs musicals sometimes. I'm not really a game person and I'm not really good in any games , except like candy crush and other classic games . So that's the end of my intro , feeling it's totally out of point but ..yeah...
